A March to Promote Peace: A Call to Action to Reduce Family, Community & Police Violence

St. Louis, Missouri– The Demetrious Johnson Charitable Foundation, Places for People, St. Louis Public Schools, St. Louis Initiative to Reduce Violence (SIRV), Ethical Society of Police-St. Louis, Ald. Frank Williamson (D-26th Ward) and numerous other organizations, elected officials, human service agencies, professionals, activists, youth, and cultural/grassroots organizations will be convening a March to Promote Peace, Justice and Healing: A Call to Action to Reduce Family, Community and Police Violence on Saturday, July 25, 2015.
The March to Promote Peace will begin early Saturday with a rally from 8:30 a.m. – 9:00 a.m. and the march from 9:00-10:00 a.m., at the Demetrious Johnson Charitable Foundation, located at 724 N. Union Blvd., St. Louis, MO 63108. Participants will mobilize to show their support of children, families and adults who have witnessed and/or been traumatized by: physical abuse and domestic violence in their homes; bullying, assault, and murder in their neighborhoods and schools; and excessive force by certain law enforcement personnel and agencies in their communities.
Following the March to Promote Peace, educational panels will start at 10:30 a.m., to address the following topic areas:
“Recognizing and Addressing the Effects of Trauma, Violence and Toxic Stress on Child and Family Well-Being”
“Improving Child Serving Agencies and Developing Youth Leaders” and
“Next Steps for implementing the Citizens Oversight Board.”
Individuals and families who have lost a loved one to a homicide in the City of St. Louis, and who plan to attend the educational seminars, can receive an update regarding the status of that investigation between 1:00 – 4:00 p.m. All interested persons, are asked to contact Khatib A.F.
